The team of PK Carsport has managed to maintain the team-lead in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series during the second race at Brands Hatch. Driver Anthony Kumpen is now also leader in the Elite-1 championship ranks.
‘During races of half an hour you don’t have a lot of time to push yourself forward, certainly not on a short track like this with a high difficulty level when it comes to overtaking. The race was also neutralised a couple of times, leaving just a small amount to act.’ said Anthony Kumpen after race one. He managed to grab fourth place, while team mate Bert Longin was less fortunate. He suffered damage during a battle with Christophe Bouchet, creating a flat tyre on the Chevrolet.
In Race 2 Anothony Kumpen managed to hunt Ander Vilarina from pole till finish, earning him second spot on the victory podium. The amount of earned points resulted in first place in the championship Elite-1 rankings.
Bert Loning suffered more bad luck. Starting from 17th the Belgian pilot managed to pull up to 13th, but once again suffered from contact with competitor cars, resulting in another flat tyre. ‘Frustrating’, Longin responded. ‘After my flat tyre was changed and I re-entered the track I was able to follow the race pace of Vilarino and Anthony, proving a podium spot would have been possible.’
