It has become a tradition to kick off the new motorsport season in the Netherlands with the Newyearsrace. This year the race will be held on the 4th of januari and counts as the second championship race in the Syntix Winter Endurance Championship 2013-2014. This is also the only race in the Netherlands that is driven partly in the dark!
Racing in the dark
The Syntix Newyears race starts at 15:00 and lasts till 19:00. At 16:45 the sun will be setting, creating a new, dark challenge to the Circuit Zandvoort track. Prior to the race a qualification round will take place at 13:30. To ensure the safety aside the tracks, the marshall posts will have lights and the cars will run with reflective stickers.
Challenging start grid
Just as prior editions of the Newyearsrace, the audience will be treated on a very diverse field of competitors. The field will contain four different divisions. Division I will contain racecars with 3200cc engines and turbo engines, such as cars from the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup, Renault Mégane Trophy Cup and the BMW M3 E90. Also the faster sportscars like the Radical SR8 and Saker Sportscar will be amongst the challengers.
In Division II cars with engines under 3200cc will compete, such as the rapid BMW 320D WTCC, Porsche 968 RS and the BMW Z4. In division III cars with engines under 2500cc will compete, for example the Renault Clio Sport, BMW 325i Compact, Porsche 944 Cup, Mitsubishi Colt. A large field of diesel driven cars will be competing in Division IV, such as the BMW 123d, the Volkswagen Golf 5 TDI and the Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI.
Free entrance
Access to the Syntix Newyears race on Circuit Park Zandvoort will be free to the dunes, main tribune and paddock. Visitors by car can access the parking lot behind the main tribune for € 6,00.
